Nihil obstat marks the first album from lightpolite, an electronic music project which has intermittently surfaced from Chicago’s fertile underground for a decade. Rather than mining the archives for the first release, the compositions comprising Nihil obstat were recorded in rapid succession in October and November of 2016. lightpolite’s Wesley Groves worked strictly with a small and shifting Eurorack modular synthesizer system and a few classic Roland machines to create a cohesive set of songs characterized by interlocking and hypnotic structures.
